This Week | January 12-18
Hey guys! Man, what a whirlwind this week has been. Usually January drags on, but I’ve been surprisingly busy with work and it’s making the days cruise on by. No complaints from me! Q1 can be so tough on the mental health, I’m just glad to have a distraction!
This week, I listened to Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell for my album of the week and honestly, I forgot how much I love everything Lana sings. I want to say Ultraviolence is the last physical CD I bought, back when I had a car with a CD player. I must have listened to it on repeat for a whole summer. I can’t believe I’d forget to listen to Lana after imprinting that on my brain for so long. Anyway, it’s proving the point that I need to listen to new music more often - I generally enjoy it!
How’s your January humming along? My husband took my son ice fishing for the first time this weekend and I fully expected the call that came around 10am to come and rescue him from the cold. I wasn’t expecting to hear that he sunk his whole foot in the ice hole - haha. We got a good laugh out of that one!
This Week’s High // My sister spontaneously suggesting we book a night at an indoor waterpark. Our kids are off school for a long weekend, so we booked a room last minute. It costs a fortune, but well worth it to not have bored kiddos at home. Bonus - all the kids are 10+, so we actually get to relax a bit when we get together. Hallelujah!
This Weeks Low // Not feeling good in my body. It comes and goes, you know? But I was feeling really good last fall and I just need to get back to the systems I had in place then. I guess I got lackadaisical during the holidays and I recently read that goals don’t create results, systems do. Time to work on my systems!
Old Navy is my 2026 uniform. Just in general like that. I picked up the dark wash jeans a couple weeks back when they were on sale for $19 and they’re the perfect fit for me. Snug at the waist. Loose and swingy around the legs. I’ve also been wearing a basic ribbed t-shirt with just about everything. I have it in black, charcoal, light gray and just got a baby blue, so I almost have a full week’s rotation.
Two random good finds, this week.
Cherry Bomb Alani, which not only has a beautiful can design, it is one of the better flavors. I really liked this one!
Wreck was a surprise find. Every once in a while, the library will have a much chattered about book available on the “hot new reads” shelf. This was one of those times and even though I haven’t read Sandwich yet, I’ve heard that it’s not necessary. The book follows the same characters, but I’m finding that’s easy enough to jump into Wreck without knowing the other book. I’ve only just started, so I’ll report back!
Extremely iffy weather around here, but that’s January! I stayed tucked at home for the most part last week, while the snow just came down in piles. I actually took a video of my bedroom window too, and the snow falling gently made such a lovely scene.
Meanwhile, I was driving home from work one night and I realized suddenly that the sun was still technically out. There’s always a night in January when it occurs to me that it’s not dark yet. I mean, we know the days are getting longer, but it’s so nice to see proof of it! Onward to brighter days ahead!
Two new to me products from the week.
I’m still in a hell of my own making with regards to the bad bleach job I did to my hair at the front end of the year. I tried the Wella T14 toner and it helped, but I’m accepting that I’ve done something truly maniacal to my hair. It’s still in the strawberry variety of blonde and I’m going to give up on it for a bit. My hair needs the break.
The Ordinary Soothing Barrier Serum is great though! I’ve been layering it under daily facial moisturizer for almost a week now and I really do feel a difference in the dryness of my skin. Usually my face is tight, dry, and flaky (ew!) and it’s just my plight to fight against. This is locking something in!
