This Week | January 5-11, 2026

Getting back to business as usual around here.

First full week of January is in the bag! I was personally ready to get back on my bullshit and when I hopped in my car Monday morning to head into the office, I was happy to be alone, just drinking my coffee with a few sacred minutes of silence. Home for the holidays with my family is rarely relaxing. Fun! But not relaxing.

Anyway, I am going extremely easy on myself this year with regards to resolutions. I’m bored of trying to lose 10lbs or save money. This year I resolve to listen to a new album start to finish every week and send birthday cards. That’s it! This week I listened to Olivia Dean, The Art of Loving. Not my usual genre, but that’s the point! It took me three commutes back and forth to work to finish the entire thing and maybe I’m a basic b, but my favorite was Man I Need.

Moving on to Deeper Well by Kacey Musgrave’s this week!

This week’s high // I work in sales, so my work win is getting my first sale on the books for the year. Small, but she whets the whistle and momentum is literally everything. Related to that, I have a goal to post on IG every single day this month and I made good on that this week. Onward!

This week’s low // Very small potatoes, but I promised to take my kids ice skating during open skate this weekend. And then like a ding-dong, I misread the schedule and missed Saturday hours entirely. Ugh! My kids were so disappointed. We turned it into a fun lunch outing instead, but I felt terrible. It’s such a good activity and they look so forward to it. I ended up giving up my Sunday afternoon to take part in that day’s open skate, which was not the plan. Oh well. You live, you learn.

Let’s take a look at the rest of the week, shall we?

I ordered these boots last weekend and they arrived! They make me feel like I’m walking with purpose and just feel so much more “put together” with jeans and a long-sleeve tee. I expect to put a lot of miles on these puppies for the next couple of (wet!) months.

Currently Reading: mommy and me edition.

I found Election at my local thrift bookshop - remember that old Reese Witherspoon movie?! I read the entire thing over the weekend. It’s that good!

My kiddos are beginning the Harry Potter series. I keep picking up the big illustrated editions at the used bookstore when I find them and finally secured year one. We kicked off this weekend! I currently have years 1-4, so I’ll be keeping my eye out for the rest of the series, but I expect we have plenty of time before we need them.

The aforementioned “lunch outing” that had to take the place of ice skating on Saturday. We popped into much recommended, but still new-to-us local dive bar. I live in a touristy area and this is one of the “local’s” places that is just off the main drag. Food was great! Service was great! Prices were so much better than they are just up the road on main street. We had a nice time. Don’t dive bars have the best vibe?

Scenes from a wintery week at home. It’s been so snowy lately, just coming down in piles it feels like. Lots of staying home and laying low.

I went for a walk after dinner this weekend and arguably, isn’t a walk while it’s snowing the best kind of walk? Dead silence that is peculiar and frankly unlike any other version of silence. As if there is a more silent kind of silence. Idk how to explain it, but folks who live in snowy regions surely understand.

Two different seasons that I’m living through right now. First, my husband decided he wants to lose 15lbs which I suspect should take him roughly until about Tuesday afternoon to achieve. Men, ya know? Anyway, I made Mediterranean chicken bowls and I fell deeply in love with the salad I made with the leftovers. Shall be stocking up on kalamata olives and feta cheese straight away.

The other is tech deck fingerboards. I am so deeply unfamiliar, but they entered my life spontaneously in mid-December when my 9 y/o suddenly became obsessed with them. You wouldn’t believe how many kick-flips and Ollies I’ve watch performed in the last several weeks!

Addendums -

+A couple other Amazon buys I made this week: my very favorite hand wash (economical!) purchased in bulk // new pillowcases for the couch pillows // a new flat iron to replace the one I’ve had since 2010 (!!)

+Text your friends. Do it now.

+I created an unnecessary hair emergency and for now, Kristin Ess has saved my life.

+Going to take this tomato soup recipe for a spin this evening. Shall report back!

Cheers!
