In my heart and in my cart + other things

In My Heart -

Last weekend, I mentioned going to a funeral for my friend’s mom. I talked a little more about how that went on Substack this week, but the gist is that our old gang of friends from high school, along with a lot of our parents, showed up for our friend that day and ultimately we agreed that we cannot let another terrible, sad thing happen to make us all get together again. Say yes was the prevailing sentiment from the day. That evening, everyone spontaneously stayed over at my house, saying yes to enjoying each other’s company for as long as we possibly could.

I can really become such a hermit. My job squeezes all the extrovert out of me - I work in customer service and account management, so I am literally talking on the phone all day long - and weekends look especially delicious when I have zero plans. If anyone is guilty of neglecting her friends and family, it’s me. I turn my phone on do not disturb and blatantly ignore calls and texts all the time. And still these people love me! Look, I will defend the need for rest all day long, but I saw the light last weekend. I will prioritize the people I love and make room for them too.

We’re in the countdown for back to school and my kiddos have exactly two weeks left of their summer break. I’m taking a half day on Wednesday to drive the whole gang down to my in-laws beach house next week. I”ll work from their kitchen table for a couple days, while my kids get to enjoy their grandparents. I very much like my in-laws, so I’m envisioning someone to have a glass of wine with promptly at 5pm when I snap that laptop shut. Assembly-lining a sandwich factory for dinner and taking it out on the boat for a dinner cruise. Some casual banter between work calls. I don’t know why I don’t do this more often, but I’m leaning into the feeling, I’m saying yes, I’m prioritizing relationships.

What are you up to this week?

In My Cart -

+I’m taking my boys back-to-school shopping today and these cargo pants are item number one on the list. They love them and I have been buying the next size up every fall for at least five years now.

+Back to school shopping for myself too. Can’t beat this classic at a great price.

+Really love this bag for fall and it’s currently 40% off!.

+F1 sure is having a moment among the normies, such as myself, and by normie I mean people who don’t care about racing but do care about trends.

+I’m a summer forever kind of gal, but these decidedly fall weather slip ons already caught my eye.

+Dang it, now I’m falling down the cold weather shoe rabbit hole.

Other Things -

+Currently Reading.

+FAFO : Work edition. Oh hell yes.

+The kind of perspective I need. I particularly love when the writer says “50 is not old! But it is undervalued” because I am cosigned 100%. You guys, we can start having this perspective right now. Because 37 is not old. 42 is not old. etc etc.

+Friendly reminder!
