In my heart and in my cart + other things.

In My Heart -

Fun week over here, fam! It was my kids last week of school and boy, the anticipation was hot in the days leading up to the final day! My 8 y/o has been telling me how excited he is to not have a “school night” bedtime anymore and lol, as if he doesn’t crash at 8pm no matter what. The high of autonomy though, ya know?!

I stocked up on goodies like glow sticks and sparklers and I’m telling myself that I’m going to somehow squeeze “fun mom” onto my resume this summer, along size “full time working mom” and also “mom who has a house to keep clean and a hundred loads of laundry” but you know, I have dreams too. I worked up a Pinterest board titled “summer camp” to keep myself accountable and I’m currently telling myself it’s not going to be all Nintendos and cartoons during working hours. We’ll see.

Which is a reminder: we’re not all rich. Summer camps cost upwards of $500 PER week and that can quickly swallow up a person’s entire salary. When I romantically say we’re going to have a 90’s inspired summer, I mean my kids are going to be bored a lot. There’s a hose in the backyard for hydration and entertainment. I’ll toss bags of pre-portioned snacks out the front door and they’ll have to ride their bikes around the neighborhood with their friends.

And honestly, what’s so wrong with that? I think boredom is such an important ingredient in the recipe of finding your passions and talents. Kids will stare at a screen all day if you let them, but take that baby away and suddenly we’re building things with legos, making those rubber band bracelets, enacting paper airplane competitions. A little boredom is good for us all, I think.

+This will come as a surprise to nobody, but I did a small summer haul at Old Navy last weekend. I got this swim suit top and bottoms (hell yeah brother to full ass coverage this summer) + these straight and these harem style linen pants + a pair of blue shorts in a shade that wins me over every time + a pair of cheap rubber flip-flops to bound around in all summer long.

+I would really like this hat. The message is on brand and can you really ever have too much shade and sun protection in the summertime?

+The branding on this looks like something I would have bought in 2003.

+For the summer camp.

+A necessity for my summer camp.

+A bit of a gamble as the scent is unsmelled at press time, but I’ll report back. The reviews are good!

+The color I wear on my tootsies all summer long.
