In my heart and in my cart + other things
In My Heart -
Self-improvement culture is hot in my head this week. I know that I am not Type A. I’m not a Virgo. I’m do not have an eldest daughter personality. But I sure have been trying to acquire all of those personality traits over the years. In my head I’ve really idolized the Type A personality as elite, having been generously and often offered content to improve my flaky, flies-by-the-seat-of-her-pants, third daughter who doesn’t care about a detail tendencies. A week or so ago, I was listening to a podcast host gripe about perfection paralysis and her quest to loosen up, and I realized that maybe I got really lucky. We’re all being served self-improvement content and there’s pros and cons to everything. I’ve been casting a Type A personality as the ultimate goal, but maybe the spectrum is wide for a reason. We all have a part to play, and what if we just, you know, played our part? Let’s say we just go with our natural inclinations. If you need something done with precision, I’m not your girl. But someone who doesn’t panic when things goes sideways and can instead shift gears pretty seamlessly because she’s not rigidly stuck to a plan? Now here’s a place where I can shine.
What’s your personality type? I ask this broadly. Enneagram 3, ESFJ, Type B over here. Whatever you are, isn’t it lucky?

In other news, I picked up The Pivot Year by Brianna Wiest at my library last week. I’ve had it in my Amazon cart for at least a year and I think I’m going to buy it. I definitely need it longer than the 2 weeks I can borrow it from the library. It’s a feast of small, digestible bites for daily inspiration.
Related: change is inevitable, but it can also be intentional. Up to you!
Another phrase I’ve been repeating to myself a bit this week: you get to choose to walk on the sunny side of the street if you want to. As in, see the bright side! The silver linings! If that’s what you want, walk in the sun.
In My Cart -
I’ve been saying this all week - spring skipped us this year and we’re full sail into summer! It was sunny and muggy and HOT for about 6 days in row. But….then the temperature dropped and we’re enjoying decidedly spring temps + rain showers, so maybe I should have kept my trap shut. Ha! In any case, I had beach days on the brain and my various carts across the internet reflected that.
+I’m becoming the kind of woman who has a seasonal and holiday specific wardrobe. Enter this hat for Memorial Day and the 4th of July. Just a mere step away from a Christmas vest or Halloween leggings!
+I’ve been eyeing these soft-sided coolers online for a few days and saw them in store yesterday. They’re very good at a $20 price point! I think I like the yellow checked version best.
+Even more economical version, albeit a bit smaller, for which I can personally attest. I have had a previous blue-and-white stripe color way for at least 5 years.
+My perfect outfit no. 1: top + bottoms.
+My perfect outfit no. 2: top + bottoms
+Everything goes nicely with these striped sandals.
+Speaking of stripes, perfect tumblrs for spring/summer.
+I can report out that I bought these and liked these, but I lost them four days later. I am still wringing my hands over it. Good God, I hope they turn up.
+Currently in my Amazon cart: these for MDW when we’ll have a houseful of kids visiting for the long weekend. A repurchase of this azelaic acid that has taken care of the acne on my chest and neck. This “girl dinner” coded cookbook.
Other Things -
+Haha. A glossary of slang for us oldies.
+Oh my lord, I am transfixed with this “serpent shack.” Instant follow because I need to know how this resolves.
+Thoughts on this as the drink of the summer? TBH I’m into it.
+Have you ever tried a lemon espresso? I’ve never even heard of this, but I just read a very inspiring recommendation and it’s officially on my summer to-do list.
