In my heart and in my cart + other things
In My Heart -
It’s May! Hallelujah! Without having to knock on wood, I can generally safely say that the snow and cold is behind us. It’s not hot yet, but very definitely spring.
This week, I was consumed with reading Ina Garten’s memoir, Be Ready When the Luck Happens. I didn’t need a new book, but I was returning a few things to the library and I always check the new books shelf. This was sitting there and I couldn’t believe it! It’s one of those hot new reads that usually has a wait list 12 people long, so I felt compelled to take it home with me. I’m so glad I did. The joie de vivre and general sense that things would just magically work out was so contagious. I’ve needed a reading experience like this one - you know the kind that makes you excited to hop in bed and read one more page. I crushed it in three days and it was the perfect reminder that I love to read.
One of my primary takeaways was the constant reminder: you don’t know your bad breaks from your good ones, which can be filed under the “rejection is (sometimes) redirection” umbrella. Its easier to see the longview when you’re looking at a whole life, which is perhaps why reading a memoir can be so inspiring. I surely wish I could see in real time how lucky it is when things don’t work the way I want them to because it leaves space for something even better to work out. Anyway, it was nice to read this book about how extraordinary things can be if you refuse to live an ordinary life. I’m going to try to be more chill when things don’t happen my way. Might be a good break!
In My Cart -
Dreaming about summertime: I found my dream swimsuit for the summer (this top + this bottom)
I also like this swim dress. I’m fully in a “cover my ass” era because the confidence I was promised would hit in my 30’s is very much not here.
Two pairs of economical sunglasses I spotted this week: these $15 cat eyes from Urban Outfitters and these ovals from J Crew Factory. I would get the pink.
Round two of brightly colored shoes for spring.
As you may know, I appreciate Old Navy very much lately, and this linen mini dress is a perfect example of why.
Another Gray Malin puzzle featuring boujee dogs. A few of us here are into that (me!).
Curious if anyone has recs. I have AirPods that I’ve loved for about five years now, but they’ve started making a weird staticky sound and I’m looking for a more economical replacement. I have these in my cart. Anyone have something they love?
Other Things -
Gatsby flopped. Fitzgerald Kept Writing from Abra McAndrew is an excellent read and subtle encouragement. Keep going because the world told even F. Scott that he sucked.
Ooh! I’m interested in trying these.
Haha, but also sigh. Imaginary courses we’d all enroll in from Sabrina Molu
Huh. Why do so many celebs have a condiment brand?
A very interesting deep dive on the transition from social media to entertainment media from Samantha Matt complete with screenshots of vintage Facebook. The mems!
