10 Things I Love Right Now

Leaning all the way into the dog days this month.

Crystal Lake in Northern Michigan Beach

1.) Olipop Crisp Apple. Tastes like apple cider, but a little bit sparkly, and isn’t a total sugar bomb. I have a feeling it’s seasonal and I kind of like that - nothing is special if it’s always available, you know? I’m not going to stock up or anything but I am going to enjoy it while it’s on the shelf.

2.) Retail Therapy Podcast. Two dudes talking about clothes, spritzes and usually Jacob Elordi.

3.) Good and Gather (target’s house brand!) of Sweet Cream creamer. Even stacked up against more expensive brands, this one is thee best. Bonus that it’s organic and has like, 3 ingredients and is only $5.

4.) Scrolling through Poshmark. I don’t need anything so I’m casually perusing and hoping something good finds me. I sold a few things there too, so I have a little balance to burn up.

5.) Fleetwood Mac radio. Always appropriate (vibes, kid safe, etc.) and usually a crowd pleaser. I don’t care who is hanging out in the kitchen, they probably know Dreams.

6.) Rewatching No Reservations and Parts Unknown. This is my comfort show and there’s so many episodes, I feel like I can rewatch forever without getting bored. There’s plenty of other traveling foodie shows, but Bourdain was in a class of his own, you know?

I’m a serial rewatcher; something about knowing I like something without needing to become invested in something new I guess? Anyway, I’ll soon switch over to rewatching Wednesday and Only Murders in the Building once fall really sets in. I love a mood watch.

7.) Reading my horoscope in the morning. I like to consult with this one.

8.) Kacey Musgraves, Middle of Nowhere. Not quite as kid-friendly as Fleetwood Mac, unless you want to explain to a 10 year old what “dry spell” means, which I do not. But I can’t quit listening to this album. Start to finish, it’s so good.

9.) “Closed for August” as a mindset. Where I live, summer is a short season and we try to make the most of it, which results in very busy weekends, indeed. By August, I felt hustled and frantic that summer was already on its way out. I decided to just stay home for the month in an effort to really drag it out. I still bop out to the farmer’s market and afternoons at the beach, but you will not catch me committing to weekends away or really any plans that take us hours away from home.

10.) Coffee Walks aka cheap therapy. Seriously, pour a cup and walk out the door. Wave to the neighbors. Listen to a podcast or a book, or listen to nothing at all, IDC. Sometimes I drive into town, buy a cup of coffee and walk around looking in all the windows. I live in a small, summer beach town, so our Main Street is your quintessential stretch, and I cannot explain it but I always feel really good after one these sessions.
