A few things I enjoyed this month

I’ve said it a hundred times, but man, the best months of the year just cruise right on by, don’t they? January is a solid six months on its own. May, June and July? A GD blink and that’s it. Such is life!

I am so so so grateful it’s finally summertime. Earlier this week though, we had our first serious heatwave and I spent an entire afternoon frantically shopping for a box fan to pop in the windows of my not air conditioned house. At the peak of it, it was 97º outside and 91º inside. We were all sporting a glaze reminiscent of a donut for a few days - ha! I I stopped into a few places and even Walmart was sold out, but Target had two in stock and I have never put anything in my cart for a pick-up so fast in my life. I was manic, so I also bought red, white, and blue gummy bears and a badminton net, and I’m just going to file that under things the heat does to my brain.

But honestly that doesn’t bother me. I love summertime so much and spending every minute of free, available time at the beach is exactly how I want spend my life. I’m loaded up on SPF and perched up with a good book and an iced coffee and that’s good enough for me!

How’s your June?

The Favorites by Layne Fargo // It took a minute for me to get into this story of two teenage ice skaters who are partners on and off the ice. Relationship-wise, they’re very on and off and the drama was almost too much for me, but roughly half way in, I was hooked on the olympic ambition. The story follows them well into their 30’s and I won’t say the drama lets up, but it does come together in the end. I loved it.

Fruity Pebbles Protein Powder // I am on a mission to meet the protein goals my doctor casually mentioned to me at my annual physical this month. She said it like, of course I’m getting 120 grams of protein a day. You guys, of course I am not, but I have a birthday coming up and I’m deeply motivated to meet my personal new year as my healthiest and hottest self. This protein powder tastes like leftover cereal milk and it’s delicious if you’re into that kind of thing. Let’s follow up on this next month.

Fridge Cigarette // Haha, this just made me laugh. I love the worst beverages, health-wise. Like, I love Diet Coke and Baja Blast, but my real kryptonite is those sour patch kids energy drinks. “Fridge Cig” really does feel pretty spot on.

Smart Ring // I’m so delighted with this budget find! I have a lovely wrist watch that I wear daily and I didn’t want to take it off for a bulky fitness band, so I started prowling around for a fitness ring instead. This one is $40 and the app is free, albeit a tad limited. It doesn’t serve up the same amount of information as fancier products, but it tells me my sleep quality and my steps and that’s all I want to obsess over anyway. I’m pleased!

Brad Pitt on Armchair Expert // I love hearing big celebs just be normal people on Armchair, and Pitt is about as big a celeb you can get and he wound up being totally normal. They didn’t talk about his marriages or kid drama, which I was glad for because I really don’t want to form an opinion on that stuff, but I really enjoyed hearing the growing up stories from Missouri and coming to. LA in the 80’s. Whatta career!

Candy Salad // Inspired by this IG video of the most photogenic pile of sugar I’ve ever seen. I thought this would be a fun treat to keep on the counter in the week leading up to the 4th. We have family in town and whoa, big surprise! It’s been a hit.

Old Navy Linen Harem Pants // I impulsively ordered these because they looked so good on the model, but was second guessing my choices by the time I got the order confirmation email. I figured it’s so dang easy to return things in-store that it didn’t really matter, but happily, I love them. Like love them love them. They were perfect on the Monday that was 100 freaking degrees and I had to still look like a professional in the office. I paired ‘em with a fitted tank and a blazer and I got two compliments on the pants specifically, so I think they were a winner!

The GAP Eva Flip Flops // I’m just a sucker for anything in a good royal blue color and these basics come in my favorite color and just do the trick. I’m thwack-thwacking around in these pretty exclusively now.

Bestsellers // You guys, I love to see everyone stocking up on these glow sticks. They really are the most fun for kids and grown-ups. Now, this Rare Beauty blush has a real name, but I call it “Pseudo Sunburn” and I’ve worn it every single day since it arrived. Lots of you took it home too - please report back! I am surprised and delighted to see this GAP shell show up on my bestsellers this month - anyone get the matching pants?
