In my heart and in my cart + other things

In My Heart -

Siri, play Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus.

Oh when times were simple. Back when it was definitely not a Nashville party, but we could still bond on our shared love of Britney and Jay-Z. Anyway, I hope you’re having a great weekend! I’ve been off since Thursday afternoon and mentally checked out since at least Tuesday, so I’m feeling very well rested. We spent the holiday doing all the festive things - the parade first, where I encouraged my kids to run out into the road for any banana laffy taffy sightings. Then we stopped by the rotary club’s annual hot dog sale, went out on the lake, rode the rickety Ferris wheel at the carnival, and ended the night watching big fireworks launched over Lake Michigan. I love when the whole crowd starts clapping after the grand finale. Like, we can all feel united for a second, you know?

The rest of the weekend I’m targeting recovery mode. We had family in town at the end of June and it’s just been back to back weekends of do ALL the fun things! I could just go for a nap this afternoon and that’s all the excitement I need.

Next weekend we’re heading to Chicago for a wedding and tbh, it’s been a while since I’ve attended one of those. I love the city and I love a dance party, so all my talk of needing a nap, I’m actually so excited for next weekend’s adventures as well. My husband and I are going alone and that’s so freaking rare for us. We do a lot of family trips, or cover for each other to do solo girl’s weekend / guy’s weekend type of trips, but doing something together without our kids is very out of the norm. I am not exaggerating when I say our last one was probably in 2021. We’re going to have so much…..uninterrupted conversations! And we can stop at random hole-in-the-walls for all the filthy, dirty….martinis that we want! Haha. middle age and marriage is so funny in its mundaneness. I mean that with love. Being comfortable with someone is its own kind of good, but yeah, I’m looking forward to a brief glimpse/reminder of the couple we were before we had kids.

In My Cart -

+I am in a full obsession in which I’m sure the result two years from now will be me looking around, wondering why everything I own is blue. But in the meantime, these sunnies are $14 and so on the obsession lives!

+RE: the above statement. I’m hoping these beauties are part of the Prime day sale next week.

+And RE: the above statement - the internet is about to be on sale. Here’s what I usually buy from Target and Amazon anyway.

+I have secured my perfect swimsuit, which I’m really proud of because swimsuit shopping is nightmarish. This top + these shorts are the real deal for ladies who like a little coverage.

+ I know in my heart this is a temporary trend, but I like to dabble. I like the rainbow thread, myself.

+Uh, excuse me. Is this (top + bottom) the summer version of that viral pink sweat suit all the moms were wearing this spring?

+Kind of want to get this trivia game for killing the time after dinner, but before bed with my kiddos.

+Something about red shorts feels very Farrah Fawcett in the summertime to me (or lifeguard, IDK). Anyway, I like ‘em.

Other Things -

+A low-key summer checklist from CupofJo.

+Related: My personal summer checklist includes root beer float night, go to music in the park on a Thursday evening, have a pizza picnic at the beach, institute a weekly family movie night featuring the 90’s kid movies I grew up with. We’re talking The Sand Lot, Mighty Ducks, The Goonies, LL in The Parent Trap, etc. Remind me what my lineup is missing, please!

+Timely and just enjoyable to scroll: Buy American Art from Alex Steele

+Our horoscopes for the day.

+Oh interesting! Would the SaTC gals even be friends any more in reality? Honestly, I don’t think so.

+Still currently reading.
