Weekend Musings | July 12, 2025
In my heart and in my cart + other things
In My Heart -
Happy Saturday! At press time, I am in Chicago for a parents only weekend with my husband, and so if we’re IG friends, I am definitely spamming you with scenes from the windy city!
Anyhow. Summer is floating by as it often does. It is vexing how the early months of the year putter by, while June and July are a whip, but I’m glad to be in the second half of summer. I always feel a shift after the 4th of July, like the slow, lazy dog days can truly set in. You know how antsy we are to get outside and make plans for every weekend and jam our free time with every single fun thing as soon as it warms up outside? That’s May and June and it feels so busy. But for me at least, the calendar clears in mid-July and suddenly it’s just sweaty, and the afternoons are long and watermelon feels like an acceptable dinner. This is the part of summer I like best and it feels very long and at the end, it makes cooler temps and earlier sunsets a more welcome thing. I can’t explain it, it just is. That’s the nice part of seasonal things. Even as I fret that the summer is going too quickly, I remember that literally every year before, I have been delighted when we shift into the next season. A lesson I guess - if I just let things happen without worrying about what comes next, I’ll probably be ready for it.
Happily, July is often a light month at work for me. My client base is largely marketing agencies who I surmise must use the bulk of their PTO in July, given how empty my inbox is. In the office, everyone hunkers down, “gets scrappy” and whatnot, but I lean in. I also take some time out knowing I won’t come back to an email bursting from the seams. Or I go in and bask in a Friday of light work. Everything has a season, you know? I cannot change anything by becoming anxious about it, so I might as well enjoy the benefits.
How is your summer coming along? I’d like to hear how you spend these lingering dog days.
In My Cart -
+Speaking of the dog days of summer, haha.
+How’d you make out during this crazy sales week? Christmas in July I heard it called more than once! I adhered largely to this list of things I buy anyway from Target and this no bs list of things I’ve been pleased with from Amazon. I didn’t buy anything weird, for which I am clapping for myself!
+My only real score of the week: I buy this anyway, but I got a good deal and a new to me flavor.
+I picked up this dress for gallivanting around Chicago before the wedding this weekend.
+Currently reading. My copy is a truly oldie, but this classic is such for a reason. Do you ever reread something and somehow gulp it down as voraciously as the first time? I am currently experiencing that.
+These $14 sunnies from J Crew Factory remind me of ‘50s Barbie.
+A very good price on a good, classic linen dress. The pragmatic part of my brain knows the cream could be so versatile in one’s closet, but naturally I prefer the least practical color way: lavender.
Other Things -
+I binge watched The Four Seasons on Netflix this week and probably took it way too seriously, but the gut punch of how close it hit to home!
+Whaaaaat?!
+Fascinating! Why Gen Z is romanticizing the 90s (and a pre-internet era they never knew).
+Just delightful. A fun catch up with Emma Watson who is somehow 35 years old now! She’ll always be 12 year old Hermione in my head though.
+Did not know this required a recipe, but okay.
+What a relief!

Instagram: Probably not going to solve my problems, but I’ll try just in case.
