In my heart and in my cart + other things

In My Heart -

+Time Warp. A couple of days ago, I caught myself writing the date and penciling in “2025” at which point, I really had to concentrate for a second on what year it is. I mean, I’m getting older, but this didn’t feel as concerning as it sounds. Just like, dang, time really flies.

+It’s fair week and I am peak level excited. I think I’m more excited than the kids. Its kind of sad because it’s always mid-August and so when I’m walking around with dusty feet and a corndog, inevitably I get Lana’s summertime sadness about how this means we’re nearing the end. But the Ferris wheel lights and the carousel music and the smell of cotton candy usually turns me around. Still summer, okay? Being at the fair means it’s still summer.

+Broke out the projector screen to marathon all the Tom Holland Spiderman movies. Taking it slow because it’s still pretty late before it’s really dark enough to put on a movie outdoors, but that’s okay because I’d like to let this take a few weeks so we can go see the newest movie in the theatre just before school starts again. A little end of summer treat to look forward to.

+One of my parenting hills is to let kids like who and what they like. I’m frankly mystified by the parents who actively steer their kids towards picking backpacks and sheets and whatever else in their own neutral taste, rather than letting them have the Bluey comforter or the Minecraft lunch bag. I mean sure, different parenting styles, but honestly I don’t get it! What’s the problem? I had a Disney’s Pocahontas shirt in 5th grade and I loved it so much, I remember it almost 30 years later.

To each their own! What are your parenting hills?

In My Cart -

+Striped sets!

  • I love this tomato red + pink summer set from Madewell | top + bottom

  • And this neutral sweater set from GAP | top + bottom

  • Another cute crochet set to wear through the dregs off dog days season.

+Do mom’s get new lunch pails for BTS season also? This mom does.

+A decidedly summer scent, but none of the usual coconut nonsense (ps - love coconut nonsense!). Spicier, like an aperol spritz in fragrance format.

+Far and away, this summer’s best seller. And it’s only $4.

+Picked up next year’s flip-flops. I’m allegiant to these and buy a fresh pair every summer. Stocking up while the summer stuff starts hitting clearance!

+My preferred Dream Coat dupe. Getting a lot of use in these sticky, humid months! There’s a lot of dupes for this now - anyone tried the others and have strong feelings to impart?

Other Things -

+I read Fleishman is in Trouble this week and will be promptly watching the mini-series. Nothing I love more than a book with a screen adaption!

+Re: the book - A slow burn. I didn’t really get hooked until mid-way through. I’m a fan of the author though so I was determined to stick with it. The last 25% of the book is such a burning, stinging, too close to the truth view of marriage and parenting and ambition, that I was simultaneously hooked and wanted to slam the book shut. Look, this phase of life is hard and this author gets that.

+Haha. The cynicism made me cackle, but like, it’s not wrong!

+I made strawberry sago! I’ve been collecting all the ingredients for a couple weeks and finally got it all together. The coconut jellies MAKE it in my opinion!

+It kind of reminded me to try those Pinterest recipes I’ve been saving forever! Next on the list.
