In my heart and in my cart + other things
In My Heart -
Feeling very unmotivated over here, friends. On one hand, I’ve been very good about practicing analog hobbies instead of scrolling on my phone at night. On the other hand, my family and my job are running me absolutely ragged. I think I have to remind myself every week that weekends are not for rest when you have young children. They’re for doing a hundred loads of laundry, asking for the TV to be turned down every 10 minutes, and locking oneself in the bathroom for five minutes of quiet. And then on Sunday evening, feeling internally hysterical that the weekend you spent all week overestimating, is over. Back to work babe!
This is a season of my life. I know that. I remind myself of it often, and honestly these kids are charmers. I took one shopping with me yesterday and he was a delight! Such great company, chatting at me the whole way. We perused three shoe stores. We don’t even need shoes! But he enjoys going for a gander as much as I do and that kind of camaraderie is so nice, especially with your kids. It’s just the constant state of chaos that wears me down, you know? I’m in a season of loud noises, shoes piled at the door, a house that cannot stay tidied, and all that alongside a husband who is also trying to survive and going about it in his own coping strategies (he’s the reason for the loud TV). A season! It’s a season! I’m chanting at myself like a one-woman cult haha.
Good lord, that felt cathartic. Anyway - onward! Can we talk about the analog hobbies? I trickled into diamond painting with a kids set at a campground about a month ago. It was so fun and very low stakes. My high school best friend and I perched up at a picnic table with her daughter and together we gabbed and gossiped and glued tiny gems to a heart shaped template. We both also have sons and they wandered up and joined us in sessions and it just made for a really nice afternoon. I bought a couple sets to play with at home, and then went in on the hobby 100% with this halloween canvas with the tiniest little gems I’ve ever seen and this baby consumes my evenings. We’ve been watching Wednesday at my house, and I dot dot dot for a couple hours instead of scrolling. It’s been quite the lifestyle upgrade.
In My Cart -
+You know what’s annoying? Being a week and a half way from October and the internet shouting that we’re running behind. I suppose it makes people more inclined to make rabid, impulsive purchases. But honestly, twelve days folks! You’ve got plenty of time to get those costumes. I will, however, take part in the mass sale pricing that happens when Anthro needs to dump Halloween stock quickly.
+Love the vintage vibes of these Halloween napkins.
+Fun! Baublebar vibes on these halloween earrings, currently 50% off.
+Really really really into wide leg jeans right now. I like these Abercrombie pair and these from Old Navy.
+Picking up now and putting away for stockings.
+My most recent Old Navy order - I kept every single item.
Other Things -
+Just finished reading last night. It was a page turner!
+Starting this biography about a “Mistress of Kings” - plural! - today.
+Via Things that Make me Happy! - The 25 Most Influential Magazine Covers of All Time. I was surprised and delighted by how many I recognized. Like pregnant Demi Moore! You know the one!
+Aspirational. Rawdogging (lol) boredom for 15 minutes.
+Two items on the menu this weekend: Tortellini Soup + Pumpkin Spice Cookies.
+Be open to the possibility.
