Everything I enjoyed recently, all in one place.

I’m on day four of a long weekend and easily the hardest part about taking some time out of the office (besides opening my inbox on Monday morning) is looking forward to it for so long and then it just flies by as fast as a regular weekend. Those scaries are coming for me later today, but I do feel refreshed! And besides, it’s officially summertime and I think we have something fun planned every weekend straight through to August.

Isn’t that how it goes though? Summer comes along and after a long boring winter, we’re like a clown car, overpacked and ready to start tumbling out with our plans and activities. Those early weeks of nice weather are flush with fun things to do. But by August, I’m worn out and ready for that slow lazy summer I keep hearing about. I turn off all the plans and just get thyself to the beach as much as possible. The long, hot sweaty dog days are probably my favorite part of the summer. I love how they drag on and offer just a tiny bit of boredom to lean into.

In the meantime though, my house is the “up north house” which is a thing in Michigan, so we have lots of family visiting in the next few weeks, Cherry Festival in Traverse City, a Weird Al concert that I’m so excited for, a wedding in Chicago (one of our favorite places to visit!), my birthday, a family road trip, and you know, work. And laundry and taking out the trash. No wonder summertime zooms by.

Weekly High // Oh easily taking a long weekend. I took off Thurs/Fri this week to hang out with my kids and have a mini beach vacation. We live maybe 15 minutes away from Lake Michigan and even though the water is still freezing, kids don’t care, and we had the best weekend playing in the water, getting ice cream, eating pizza and watching the MineCraft movie 15 times.

Weekly Low // Waffling on plans for myself. My birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I think I always get a little morose, taking inventory of what I’ve accomplished in the last year. It never feels like enough and even though I often remind myself that life is long and the wheels turn slowly, I do feel a little stagnant in a few areas of my life. It takes courage that I don’t presently have to shake things up really, and maybe that’s why the 40-something mid-life crisis is such a stereotype. We start feeling this way in our late 30’s and really freaking lose it somewhere in the 40’s maybe? IDK but I’m THIS close to blowing up my life in the name of some change. Variety baby, she’s the spice of life!

And on that note, let’s get into something more fun! Here’s some things I bought this week, or want to buy -

As always, images are links!

THEE Viral Pink GAP Set - TOP & BOTTOM // Popular among probably everybody, but I keep seeing it on Momtok especially. I saw a woman in the flesh wearing this set and I have never been so influenced in all my life. As press time, each piece is $29.

Old Navy Gauze Button Down Romper // You know I’m a missionary for Old Navy, always sharing the good news. This romper looks so polished yet easy to wear. Seriously, pair it with good shoes and you’ve got yourself an outfit!

Old Navy Crinkle High Waist Shorts // I bought these shorts two weeks ago and they are in full rotation here. I’m considering buying them in black and navy blue because I can really see them being daily drivers. They’re a good length - short but not hoochie - and have a nice elastic waist band that is simultaneously loose, but not gaping. For me, it’s a perfect fit. TTS.

Black and White Marbled Crocs // Oh my god, these are the coolest shoes if you ask an 8 y/o. He’s been pining for crocs and I looked around one day at the grocery store and realized every single kid was wearing a pair. I picked up these $20 knock-offs and we’re both happy. He feels like a cool little dude and I don’t have to wait 15 minutes for him to untie and retie the laces on his sneakers every time we try to leave the house.

Anthro Inspired Capri Fragrance Oil // Happy to report out that this smells precisely like the Anthro version for a mere $10. Fresh, citrusy and beautiful for summertime!

Fitness Tracker Ring //This just arrived on Friday, but I promptly put it on and put it to work. So far, I’m really liking it! I got a nice watch earlier this year and just didn’t want to wear a big, bulky fitness watch anymore, but I love to obsess over my sleep and step count. The ring bridges that gap for me and this one is only $40 and doesn’t require any subscriptions (and the app is free). I’ll keep you posted on how well she tracks, but for now, I’m pleased with my purchase.

Red, White, and Blue Gummy Candy // I am inspired to make a red, white, and blue candy salad for the 4th and these festive Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids are ingredients numbers 1 and 2. Wondering if it’s weird if I toss M&Ms in that mix?

The Favorites by Layne Fargo // Currently reading! I’m not hooked quite yet, but the premise and promise is there. Katarina Shaw and Heath Rocha are young Olympic bound ice skaters that are partners on and off the ice. They like, 17 when this all starts so their romance is tumultuous to say the least. A little cheesy, but I can sense a good twist coming up!
