In my heart and in my cart + other things
In My Heart -
Well, this was the week that January almost came and got me. WHATTA DOOZY.
+A couple of summers ago, there was a lot of turmoil at work during our busiest season and one gal and I, both long-serving “veterans” as far as the staff goes, had to carry a lot of the weight, largely because we had been there long enough to know what to do. We would find ourselves tiredly commiserating every Friday. Whatta doozy, we’d inevitably say every single week. And it was. And we lived to tell the tale, so that’s that. May I remember that last bit every time I am served a doozy, you know?
Anyway, this week, January was her best, most stereotypical self. We have an extreme winter storm just about to cover 50% of the continental USA and that is taking up a lot of my headspace, along with - gestures wildly - the general state of things. I cooked my own goose a bit too, so I’ll take responsibility for that. In any case, on Friday afternoon, I took a half day of PTO at work and caught up on things at home and took a nap. The following morning, I slept in about 2 hrs later than usual and woke up completely refreshed. I guess I needed the sleep! If the rest of the weekend follows as such, Monday I shall be good as new!
+In happier news, I have finally resolved the hair emergency I created by DIY bleaching my hair. I’m largely back to my natural light brown/dark blonde color and boy am I happy to see her! Completely by accident, I stumbled on this Hair Transformation from Tribeca Moms Club and I am deeply considering just leaning into my natural color. She looks SO good with darker hair and I’m wondering now if I too, have suffered from blonde blindness.
Above all though, I am surely hopeful that I'm done telling you about my own escapades with bleach - haha! I was cavalier for a bit, but I think I finally learned my lesson!
+Finally, and annoyingly vaguely, but you now - the internet. An opportunity has landed unexpectedly in my lap this week and I’ve been consulting every oracle I can think of to suss out the practicality - my husband, the magic 8 ball on my desk, etc. Is it the right time? Is it ever? Is it the right move? I guess the less vague thing to ask is: when you’re comfortable but completely bored, what matters more? Stability or adventure?
Let’s let that carry us into the week!
In My Cart -
+Always worth a gander, Sephora is running an extra 20% off sale items.
+Drugstore beauty though, has influenced me! I just ordered this NYX foundation brush at the recommendation of the internet. I’ll report back!
+Let my finger board lovin’ little guy pick out his classroom valentines this week and he landed on this set for everyone.
+Suddenly obsessed with the idea of a teddy long coat, like this one. Or this Amazon dupe.
+SWOON. Best Friend Forever charm necklaces for grown-ups!
+Meanwhile, a cozy mock sweatshirt in so many colors.
Other Things -
+On wanting a big life from Probably Oversharing. This line got me: “I think we mock people who try because wanting is vulnerable.”
+Is it the Olympics that is guiding all these winter sports dramas to appear? Idk, but I’m into it! Giving this one a try over the weekend.
+Always a back-up plan: I’ve been rewatching Mad Men from the first episode recently and boy, what an absolute banger.
+What are you reading lately? I tried Wreck and I guess it just never hooked me. It’s fine enough, but I found the dialogue just isn’t for me. I set her down and now I’m itchy for something new to crack into. Any recommendations?
+Haha. Vibes for the week.
+Feels like a good recipe to try during this snowpocalypse we’ve been promised.
