The Everything Shower
Rub a dub dub.
Do you guys remember what we called an everything shower before an “everything shower” became a thing? Haha. Maybe just a….shower? In high school, taking a shower in the morning was part of the routine. I needed it to fully wake up, but this is also before I drank coffee or woke up at 5am just to catch a single hour to myself. I’d hit the snooze on my alarm clock to the very last minute before slouching down the stairs and cranking the water to the absolute hottest setting.
Nowadays, it’s more of a production. It’s longer, for sure, now that I give myself proper time. I don’t quite have the same aversion to waking up early that I did in the early 2000s. Perhaps because if I wait too long, I am joined by intermittent guests walking in and out to ask me where their favorite sweatshirt is or can they watch an episode of Scooby-Doo? So, during the business week, I like to take a shower before anyone wakes up, while it’s still dark outside and I can bring a cup of coffee as an accoutrement. A real luxury is the evening shower, but I hate to go to bed with a wet head of hair (a wet pillow, ugh!).
Arguably the biggest change is the line up of products in my shower. Circa 2006, it would have been extremely streamlined and simple: St. Ives apricot scrub for my face, Bath and Bodyworks “Art Stuff” glittery body wash, and probably a blue Venus brand razor. After I hopped out, I’d gel my hair, scrunch it and then depending on my mood, I’d mist myself generously with either Love Spell or Britney’s Curious (remember the little blue bottle with the pink gemstone?!). Simple times, baby.
Now I’m a bit more precious with my hair and skin. The line-up changes here and there, so this is my current routine:
OGX Coconut Coffee Body Scrub and Wash // Smells exactly like summertime!
billie Detox Body Wash in Green Tea // It’s a good gender neutral scent that doesn’t lean masculine as I find so many neutral scents often do. It smells invigorating and I dearly hope the scent lingers on my skin because it’s just nice and clean.
La Roche Posay Cleansing Oil // I actually don’t often wash my face in the shower because it’s generally clean from the night before, but I do keep a bottle just in case I do take one of those elusive evening showers.
Kristin Ess Shampoo and Conditioner // I’m pretty allegiant to this drugstore brand largely because I think it smells good. I like the signature shampoo and conditioner best, but swap in the purple shampoo here and there. I’m currently working my way through the “softening” line and it’s nice. Smells a bit like coconut.
Loreal Everpure // For squeaky clean hair, you cannot go wrong with the clarifying shampoo. Every once in a while, I’ll suds this up to clear out any lingering product. I also like the 5 minute glossing lamination mask as a grand finale and find that it really does leave a nice, sealed in shine to my hair for a couple day.
Flamingo // I use a flamingo razor and after my shower, I like to layer on the Flamingo body lotion. Again, this decision is based entirely on scent. It smells clean and good and is gender neutral without being masculine at all. My whole family uses this lotion and my only gripe is that Target stopped stocking it in stores.

So that’s me! What are you die-hard about in an everything shower?
